Eric Trump Threatens To Sue MS NOW and Jen Psaki Over China Trip Commentary

Eric Trump has announced that he plans to sue MS NOW and host Jen Psaki, accusing them of making false claims about his business ties during coverage of his father’s trip to Beijing. The threat came after Ms. Psaki discussed Eric Trump’s presence on the China trip during her cable news program, “The Briefing.” In the segment, she cited a Financial Times report and said Mr. Trump was connected to ALT5 Sigma, a financial technology company exploring a potential deal with a Chinese chipmaker.Mr. Trump denied any involvement in those discussions and disputed Ms. Psaki’s characterization of his role. “To be clear: Contrary to her monolog [sic] and blatant lies, I have NEVER been on the board of ALT5 — not now, not ever,” he wrote in a social media post.“Any person with basic access to Google and willing to open a company’s annual report or proxy statements would know this. I have had zero involvement in any merger discussions involving any public entity I do not run or control. I have zero business interests in China. No properties, no investments, nothing!” he wrote. “I joined this trip for one reason: as a loving son who adores my father and wouldn’t miss being by his side for this incredible moment. During the bilateral talks [Lara Trump] and I went to the Great Wall of China.”Ms. Psaki’s original segment focused on whether Eric Trump’s travel alongside the president raised conflict-of-interest concerns. She noted that he does not hold a government role and was meant to be separated from official business matters.“Guess where Trump’s adult son, Eric, is right now?” Ms. Psaki said. “Well, he’s with his father in China. You see, Eric is on the board of a company called ALT5 Sigma. Well today, while Eric is in China with his dad, the Financial Times is reporting that this company has a memorandum of understanding to explore a potential deal with a Chinese computer chip manufacturer to build AI data centers and a whole bunch of other AI-related stuff.”“I could go on and on and on about all of the sketchy ways that Trump’s sons are making money while their dad is president. Just last month, Eric was on Fox Business bragging out loud about how one of his companies scored a $24 million contract with the Pentagon. Last year, a company partially owned by Trump’s other adult son, Don Jr., landed a nearly $5 million contract with the U.S. Air Force. And both of Trump’s sons are now part owners in a new drone company that is hoping to win major Pentagon contracts,” Ms. Psaki said.Bloomberg previously reported that Eric Trump had been listed as a board observer and adviser for ALT5 Sigma Corp., a Las Vegas-based fintech company that later rebranded as AI Financial Corp. He was reportedly removed from the company’s website in April. The company partnered last year with World Liberty Financial, a crypto venture founded by President Donald Trump and his sons.“As recently as March, the president’s second eldest son was listed on the leadership page of its website. By last week, his name had been removed from the page,” Bloomberg reported on April 30.Later Friday, Ms. Psaki responded on air to Eric Trump’s legal threat and defended the substance of her reporting, while acknowledging that his status with ALT5 had shifted over time. “Today the adult son of the President of the United States, Eric Trump, came after us on social media and accused us of lying,” she said.Ms. Psaki said Mr. Trump objected to being described as a board member but argued there was evidence that public descriptions of his role had varied. “Eric took issue with us describing him as a member of the board of that AI company,” she said. “And in his tweet today, Eric says he has never, in all caps, I would note, been on the board of Alt Five, not now, not ever. That is a little confusing,” she added, “considering that this is how he was introduced at the NASDAQ just last summer when Alt5 rang the opening bell.”She later said, “To be as fair as possible to Eric, I should say that his role at ALT5 is that, at the very least, been complicated.”Eric Trump’s lawsuit threat follows a pattern of aggressive legal action by the Trump family against media organizations. President Trump has reached settlements with Paramount and ABC and continues to pursue several other cases, including a defamation suit against the BBC.
