A German woman has been arrested for allegedly killing three of her newborn babies and keeping their bodies in her cellar for two decades. She turned herself in after the bodies were discovered by her surviving adult children. Instead they found the bodies, wrapped in plastic bags and newspapers, one dating from 1988.

Police said they were now waiting for the bodies to thaw before determining the causes of death, but added that the case was “basically solved.”

They said that the presumed mother, 44, who is now under medical supervision, was overweight and may have been able to keep the pregnancies a secret from the rest of her family.
