Huckabee Says He ‘Prays’ for Israeli Settlers Who Torched West Bank Mosque and Left Graffiti in His Name

U.S. ambassador to Israel, Mike Huckabee, said he “prays” for settlers who torched a mosque in the West Bank and left graffiti with his name on a different building. “At least they spelled my name right! The ‘unsettlers’ betray the State of Israel, Judea/Samaria residents, civil law & the Torah. I pray for them!,” Ambassador Huckabee wrote on X. Earlier in the week a mosque in the village of Bizzariya in the Nablus area was set on fire by Israeli settlers who also vandalized a nearby building with graffiti reading: “Evacuations [of outposts] = trouble. You’ve been warned. Regards to (Mike) Huckabee from the terrorists.”The latter part of the text referred to the ambassador, who previously called settlers who barricaded themselves in front of Palestinian homes in the village of Qusra “terrorists.”Huckabee was also quoted on Tuesday as saying that it was “truly sad that someone would take pride in being a terrorist. But a small group that damages the reputation of 99.9% of Israelis who live by both civil law and the Torah does not represent the Jewish people or the rest of Israel.”Eight settlers have been arrested this week on suspicion of several arson attacks against Palestinians in the West Bank. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu issued a rare condemnation last week against “criminal acts of violence committed in the villages of Qusra and Jalud by a handful of rioters who are violating the law, causing a grave injustice to the law-abiding Jewish community, interfering with the IDF in carrying out its missions, and harming Israel’s standing in the world.”Netanyahu said the IDF, Shin Bet and the police conducted a “vigorous investigation on the ground” and that he expected law enforcement authorities “to arrest the rioters and bring them to justice as soon as possible.”Settler violence against Palestinians in the West Bank has skyrocketed since the Hamas-led terror attack on October 7, 2023. In July, the UN recorded some 216 settler attacks against Palestinians leading to casualties and property damage. About 445 Palestinians were displaced from their West Bank homes in the same period. Most of the attacks since January 2025 have taken place in the central and northern West Bank, according to the UN. The New York Times reported that more than 200 influential Israelis signed a letter in June, denouncing “Jewish terrorism” and “ethnic cleansing” in the West Bank, including former prime ministers, former military and air force generals, as well as former intelligence chiefs.
