Investigators Identify Substance Sprayed on Congresswoman Ilhan Omar at Minneapolis

Forensic investigators have determined that the substance sprayed at Congresswoman Ilhan Omar during a chaotic town hall in Minneapolis on Tuesday night was likely apple cider vinegar.The incident occurred while the Minnesota Democrat was addressing the crowd, reportedly criticizing Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and discussing the abolition of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency.Videos from the event captured a man, identified as 55-year-old Anthony J. Kazmierczak, surging toward the podium and spraying a liquid from a syringe onto Ms. Omar.Security personnel and Minneapolis police quickly tackled Mr. Kazmierczak, who was subsequently arrested on suspicion of third-degree assault. A law enforcement source confirmed to CNN on Wednesday that the amber-colored liquid was likely apple cider vinegar, a common kitchen staple.Despite the disruption, Ms. Omar refused requests from her team to pause the event or change her clothes. Her office released a statement following the incident, saying, “The Congresswoman is okay. She continued with her town hall because she doesn’t let bullies win.”The altercation took place just hours after former President Trump mentioned Ms. Omar during a rally in Iowa. When asked later by ABC News if he had viewed the video of the attack, Mr Trump said, “No. I don’t think about her. I think she’s a fraud. I really don’t think about that. She probably had herself sprayed, knowing her.”Republican House members came to Ms. Omar’s defense. “What happened at Rep. Ilhan Omar’s town hall — where she was sprayed with a substance during the event — is completely unacceptable. Regardless of political views, we should all agree this behavior crosses a line and cannot be tolerated,” congressman Mike Lawler, a New York Republican, wrote on X.
