The secretary of Housing and Urban Development, Alphonso Jackson, is planning to announce his resignation today, according to sources close to the matter, the Wall Street Journal reported on its Web site. The decision is likely to create difficultly for the Bush administration as it attempts to right the housing and mortgage mess in America.
The reasons for Mr. Jackson’s resignation were not immediately available, according to the Journal’s Web site. Recently, he has been accused of favoritism and cronyism. Earlier in March, Senator Murray of Washington and Senator Dodd of Connecticut, both Democrats, sent a latter to President Bush calling for his resignation. The senators said the accusations had distracted Mr. Jackson, making him ineffective, according to the Journal’s Web site.
