Bronx Women Arrested In Rent Assistance Scam

Two Bronx women were arrested Friday for allegedly defrauding the New York City Housing Authority out of $36,048 in rent assistance.
According to the New York City Department of Investigation, Adrienne Cousins, 33, and Andrea Thomas-Newkirk, 44, concealed tens of thousands of dollars of income to receive Section 8 rent subsidies to which they weren’t entitled. The two women were charged with grand larceny and face up to seven years in jail.
Since January, the DOI has arrested 51 people for allegedly cheating NYCHA out of $1.5 million in housing subsidies.
