Mayor Bloomberg is scheduled to provide an update on the city’s five-year plan to create an all-hybrid fleet of taxis at a press conference where he will also thank three automotive giants for participating in the plan, according to a spokeswoman for General Motors.
Today’s conference at City Hall comes a day after General Motors — one of the three companies contributing to the initiative — announced a major restructuring to shore up new capital.
Mr. Bloomberg will personally thank General Motors, Nissan, and Ford for donating hybrid models in an effort to replace the traditional Ford Crown Victorias on the streets of New York City with a variety of more gas-efficient models.
Each month, General Motors and Ford have donated 50 Chevrolet Malibu hybrids and Escape hybrids, respectively, while Nissan has donated 200 Altima hybrids each month.
