‘Storm Warning for Mayor: Remember Mr. Lindsay’
I can understand why automobile owners are upset that their cars are ticketed after the recent snow [New York, “Storm Warning for Mayor: Remember Mr. Lindsay,” February 16, 2007].
What I can’t understand is why we continue to give away this “free” parking — on most streets in Manhattan, two of the three effective lanes are used by a tiny number of people who keep their cars there year round. That’s easily a total of $25,000 in fines for one year of “free” parking per each side-street block. Let’s at least charge them for it.
