Philadelphia Prosecutor Threatens to Arrest ICE Agents Deployed at the City’s Airport

Philadelphia’s Democratic district attorney, Larry Krasner, is threatening to prosecute Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers if they break any laws while they are deployed at the city’s airport.“ICE, play nice,” Mr. Krasner said during a press conference at the airport.“I will put you in handcuffs, and I will put you in a courtroom, and, if necessary, I will put you in a jail cell if you decide to make the terrazzo floor of this airport anything like what you did in the streets of Minneapolis, which involved the criminal homicide of unarmed, innocent people,” Mr. Krasner said. “We are not having that here.”“No, the president cannot pardon you,” Mr. Krasner added.President Trump sent ICE agents to airports around the country this week to help support the Transportation Security Administration. The Department of Homeland Security agency has been hit with staffing shortages amid a partial government shutdown that has left TSA agents working without pay for more than a month.ICE agents have been seen walking through airports and providing security at exits but are not screening passengers. Funding for Homeland Security has been stalled because Democrats want reforms at ICE after the killings of two people during a surge of immigration enforcement operations in Minnesota. Republicans have blocked Democratic efforts to fund just the TSA — not ICE.Among the changes sought by Democrats are mandatory body-worn cameras, a requirement for judicial warrants to carry out immigration operations, and a ban on agents wearing face masks. Mr. Trump supports agents wearing masks as they carry out raids but has asked that agents not wear masks during the airport deployments.Most ICE agents have refrained from masks inside airports and they have not been taking part in any planned immigration-enforcement operations in the terminals.Mr. Krasner previously referred to ICE agents as “wannabe Nazis” and threatened to go after them for breaking any laws.“If we have to hunt you down the way they hunted down Nazis for decades, we will find your identities, we will find you, and we will achieve justice,” Mr. Krasner said at a rally in January.Governor Josh Shapiro condemned the comparison of ICE agents to Nazis. “That kind of rhetoric is unacceptable, it is abhorrent, and it is wrong, period, hard stop, end of sentence,” Mr. Shapiro said during an interview on Fox News Channel.
