Republican Congressman Hit With Restraining Order Request From Ex-Wife Who Happens To Be Daughter of GOP Senator

A Republican lawmaker, Congressman Max Miller, is facing a restraining order from his ex-wife, who happens to be the daughter of Mr. Miller’s home state GOP senator. Mr. Miller has denied accusations of physical abuse against his former wife and his daughter. Mr. Miller — a former aide to President Trump — was elected to Congress in 2022. The same year he was elected to the House, he married Emily Moreno, the daughter of Senator Bernie Moreno, a Republican from Ohio who won his Senate seat in 2024. Mr. Moreno continues to support his former son-in-law’s congressional re-election campaign despite the allegations. According to a Cuyahoga County court filing made public on Thursday, Mr. Miller is accused of touching his former wife’s attorney without his consent. Mr. Miller has also been accused by a former girlfriend and White House press secretary, Stephanie Grisham, of physical abuse, as well. Ms. Grisham served as chief of staff to first lady Melania Trump during the first Trump administration.According to court filings, Mr. Miller allegedly abused his then-wife on several occasions. The congressman allegedly threw hot water on his wife, sprayed her with a sink hose, and abused his daughter who suffered a fractured collarbone, according to Ms. Moreno’s attorneys. The court filing Thursday alleges that Mr. Miller “has harassed, threatened, and communicated directly” with his former wife’s lawyer. Ms. Moreno alleges that he will continue “to harass, threaten, and communicate with my counsel” if the restraining order is not granted. In a statement to the New York Times, Mr. Miller denied the allegations. “Texas is turning blue like I’m losing my seat. Take a hike. After I win by more than my district, don’t bother ever contacting me again,” Mr. Miller said. His office did not immediately respond to a request for comment from the New York Sun.The Ohio senator — Mr. Moreno — has declined so far to un-endorse Mr. Miller in his re-election campaign. “Senator Moreno’s top priority is the safety and well-being of his daughter and granddaughter,” Mr. Moreno’s office first told Semafor. “While he does not litigate these matters in the media or respond to baseless public attacks, he will do whatever it takes to ensure a just outcome for his family.” Mr. Moreno’s office did not immediately respond to a message from the Sun seeking comment.Mr. Miller is currently not facing an investigation by the House Ethics Committee, which typically adjudicates allegations of all sorts levied against lawmakers. “We have a process here. The House Ethics Committee works on those things,” Speaker Mike Johnson said last week when asked about the allegations of abuse levied against Mr. Miller.
