Women who live and work in New York are not immortal, but they do know how to look young and glamorous no matter what their age, according to author Charla Krupp, a former beauty director at Glamour magazine. In her new book “How Not to Look Old: Fast and Effortless Ways to Look 10 Years Younger, 10 Pounds Lighter, 10 Times Better” (Springboard), Ms. Krupp explains (in the warm, funny tone of a best friend) how women can style themselves to appear radiant and sexy — and there are plenty of women around town who know how to do just that.

New Yorkers have an advantage in that they have access to the best and the brightest beauty professionals, such as hairstylists and makeup artists. They’re also frequently in public positions of leadership and philanthropy, which require that they look their best consistently. Ms. Krupp reviewed a handful of photographs I took while covering the social beat for The New York Sun — as well as one snapped by another photographer for this newspaper; the author found that many high-profile women embody what it means to look fabulous.
