Trump Enjoys ‘Excellent Health’ but Should Improve Diet, White House Physician Reports

President Trump is in “excellent health” and is “fully fit to carry out all duties of the Commander-in-Chief and Head of State,” according to a detailed memorandum released by the White House late Friday. However, the president’s physician noted that he needs to improve his diet and lose additional weight; the memo says he has gained 14 pounds since his last annual physical.The comprehensive evaluation, prepared by U.S. Navy Captain Sean P. Barbabella, physician to the president, followed Mr. Trump’s visit to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. The visit took roughly three and a half hours and was Mr. Trump’s third scheduled medical appointment at the facility in 13 months.“President Trump remains in excellent health, demonstrating strong cardiac, pulmonary, neurological and overall physical function,” Dr. Barbabella wrote in the memo. He further noted that the president’s demanding schedule “continues to support his overall well-being,” and added that his “cognitive and physical performance are excellent.”According to the report, the 79-year-old president — who turns 80 next month and is the oldest person ever elected to the White House — stands 6 feet 3 inches tall and weighs 238 pounds. His resting heart rate was recorded at 73 beats per minute, his blood pressure was a healthy 105/71 mmHg, and his oxygen saturation was 98 percent “on room air.”The extensive evaluation involved diagnostic testing and consultations with over 20 specialty providers. A coronary CT angiogram found no arterial blockages, and an AI-enhanced electrocardiogram estimated Trump’s cardiovascular age to be “approximately 14 years younger than his chronological age.” Mr. Trump also achieved a perfect score of 30 out of 30 on the Montreal Cognitive Assessment.The report did note a few minor medical findings. Dr. Barbabella documented “slight lower leg swelling … with improvement from last year,” following a previous diagnosis of chronic venous insufficiency. The physician also addressed “benign” bruising on the backs of the president’s hands, calling it “consistent with minor soft tissue irritation related to frequent handshaking in the setting of aspirin use for cardiovascular prevention.” The report also noted “scarring of the right ear consistent with prior gunshot injury.”Dr. Barbabella said that “preventive counseling was provided, including guidance on diet, recommendation to take a low-dose aspirin, increased physical activity, and continued weight loss.” Trump remains a lifelong non-smoker who abstains from alcohol, and currently takes rosuvastatin and ezetimibe for cholesterol control, alongside low-dose aspirin.Following his physical, Mr. Trump posted on social media: “Just finished my 6 month physical at Walter Reed Military Medical Center. Everything checked out PERFECTLY. Thank you to the great Doctors and Staff!”
