Trump Media Posts $400 Million First-Quarter Loss as Trump Sons Pivot to Billion-Dollar Tech Investments

Trump Media and Technology Group, the parent company behind President Trump’s social media platform Truth Social, reported a staggering net loss of more than $400 million for the first quarter of 2026, while bringing in less than $1 million in total sales.For the first three months of the year, the company generated just $871,200 in revenue, the company said in a press release. Alongside these modest sales, TMTG reported a $405.9 million net loss. In the press release, the company noted that the vast bulk of the red ink stemmed from accounting charges rather than daily operations, citing “non-cash losses including unrealized losses on digital assets, digital assets pledged, and equity securities ($368.7 million), accreted interest ($11.5 million), and stock-based compensation ($11.8 million).”The release marks the first quarterly report since former Congressman Devin Nunes abruptly stepped down as chief executive. TMTG subsequently named media executive Kevin McGurn, whose résumé includes leadership roles at Hulu, Vevo, and T-Mobile, as interim CEO.Despite the massive quarterly losses, TMTG ended the quarter with $2.2 billion in total assets and roughly $2.1 billion in financial holdings. The company also highlighted its fourth consecutive quarter of positive operating cash flow, reporting $17.9 million generated from operations. Furthermore, TMTG is continuing its push to merge with nuclear fusion company TAE Technologies in a deal valued at more than $6 billion.Mr. McGurn addressed the company’s financial standing and future trajectory, saying: “Trump Media is using its strong balance sheet and positive operating cash flow to continue growing all our businesses and platform infrastructure.”“Even as we work toward advancing our proposed merger with TAE Technologies as quickly as possible, we’re identifying new growth opportunities and new ways to increase shareholder value. Truth Social remains a bastion of free speech with innovative enhancements coming soon, and I look forward to rapidly growing our Truth Social and Truth+ communities and building out these powerful, uncancellable platforms for free expression,” he said.The stated mission of Trump Media remains “to end Big Tech’s assault on free speech by opening up the Internet and giving people their voices back.” However, while the flagship media company navigates significant financial hurdles, the president’s sons are actively cashing in on politically favored tech sectors.Meanwhile, Eric and Donald Trump Jr. have thrown their weight behind a billion-dollar “war chest” targeting industries championed by the White House, including artificial intelligence, cryptocurrency, and drone manufacturing. The brothers collectively hold roughly 12 percent of Dominari Holdings, which manages over $1 billion spread across 21 investment vehicles. As they expand these investments, the Trump sons’ personal fortunes have surged from an estimated $40 million to $50 million each before the 2024 election to roughly $400 million for Eric and $300 million for Don Jr.
