‘I Have To Get Personal’: Bill Clinton Blasts Republicans for Forcing Hillary Clinton To Testify About Jeffrey Epstein

A defiant President Clinton blasted Republican lawmakers on Friday for forcing his wife, the former secretary of state, Hillary Clinton, to answer questions in their investigation into Jeffrey Epstein.“I have to get personal. You made Hillary come in. She had nothing to do with Jeffrey Epstein. Nothing. She has no memory of even meeting him. She neither traveled with him nor visited any of his properties,” Mr. Clinton said in an opening statement to the House Oversight Committee.“Whether you subpoenaed 10 people or 10,000, including her was simply not right,” Mr. Clinton added.Mr. Clinton gave a closed door deposition at Chappaqua, New York on Friday, a day after Ms. Clinton appeared before the same committee.Mr. Clinton released his opening statement on social media on Friday morning. He told lawmakers he “saw nothing” and “did nothing wrong” during his time spent with Jeffrey Epstein.“I had no idea of the crimes Epstein was committing. No matter how many photos you show me,” Mr. Clinton said.“Though my brief acquaintance with Epstein ended years before his crimes came to light, and though I never witnessed during our limited interactions any indication of what was truly going on, I am here to offer what little I know so that it might prevent anything like this from ever happening again,” Mr. Clinton said.“As someone who grew up in a home with domestic abuse, not only would I not have flown on his plane if I had any inkling of what he was doing — I would have turned him in myself and led the call for justice for his crimes, not sweetheart deals.”Mr. Clinton warned lawmakers that they might hear “I don’t recall” from him often in his answers but said his interactions with Epstein happened so long ago.The Oversight Committee is investigating Epstein and his connection to some of the world’s most powerful individuals.The Clintons agreed to be deposed only after the committee’s chairman, Congressman James Comer, initiated contempt of Congress proceedings against the former first couple. After they agreed to be deposed, Mr. Comer allowed them to be questioned at their hometown rather than on Capitol Hill.President Trump told reporters on Friday that he is not pleased with the deposition of Mr. Clinton in the House Epstein.“I like Bill Clinton and I don’t like seeing him deposed,” the president said as he departed the White House.Friday’s hearing marks the first time a former president has been compelled to testify to Congress. Congressional Democrats are now renewing calls for Mr. Trump to testify about his Epstein links.
