Bill O’Reilly To Sub In for NewsNation’s Chris Cuomo, Vows To ‘Bring Back’ the Format of ‘The O’Reilly Factor’

Bill O’Reilly will return to the anchor chair for the first time since 2017, when he was ousted from Fox News. Mr. O’Reilly appeared on NewsNation’s “Cuomo” to provide commentary on President Trump’s State of the Union address and the Trump Administration’s handling of the Epstein files.At the end of his appearance, the former Fox News journalist announced that he will be hosting, temporarily, Chris Cuomo’s show, marking the first time he’ll anchor a cable news program in nearly a decade. “I want to tell everybody, you’re going to Israel,” Mr. O’Reilly said. “A week from tonight, I’m going to do the hour, the whole ‘ ‘Cuomo’ hour. And I’m bringing back ‘The O’Reilly Factor.’”Mr. Cuomo quipped, “Highest rated ever.”Mr. O’Reilly added, “You can’t miss this. Wait until you see the cast that we’ve assembled. You’re going to be jealous.”Mr. Cuomo joked, “It’s going to be the ‘Everybody Hates Chris’ show.”Mr. O’Reilly’s return to the anchor chair comes with a significantly smaller cable audience than he had when he hosted “The O’Reilly Factor” on Fox News, which was frequently the top-rated cable news show. In the first quarter of 2017, his show averaged 3.98 million viewers. By contrast, Mr. Cuomo’s primetime show averaged 167,000 total viewers throughout December 2025. NewsNation said that its December primetime ratings were the highest it had seen since it launched in 2021. Mr. O’Reilly was forced out of Fox News after the New York Times reported he’d entered into an eight-figure private settlement with a Fox News contributor who accused him of sexual harassment. He’d also personally settled, in 2004, a sexual harassment lawsuit brought by one of his producers, Andrea Mackris, for an estimated $9 million. In 2017, he launched his “No Spin News” podcast, and he has been a frequent guest on NewsNation. He has also had continued success as a bestselling author. Mr. Cuomo joined NewsNation in 2022 after he was fired by CNN due to details that emerged about how he helped advise his brother, former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, on how to respond to allegations of sexual harassment. In 2021, the Times also reported that a former ABC News colleague of Chris Cuomo had approached CNN to make a sexual harassment complaint against him (Cuomo denied the allegations).
