Bondi Faces MAGA Backlash for ‘Shrieking’ Performance at Congressional Hearing

Attorney General Pam Bondi is facing growing criticism from pundits on the right after her performance this week before the House Judiciary Committee.Ms. Bondi dodged most questions about the Epstein files and answered Democrats by hurling personal insults against them.Ms. Bondi’s appearance Wednesday marked the first time she sat for questioning by lawmakers on the panel since she became attorney general last year. Her performance was blasted by liberals and some conservatives.Conservative Christian broadcaster Erick Erickson posted a clip on his X account of Ms. Bondi answering a question about why she hasn’t prosecuted anyone related to the Jeffrey Epstein files by saying the Dow Jones Industrial Average is above 50,000 and that is what people should be worried about.“When the Attorney General of the United States is asked why she has prosecuted no one related to Jeffrey Epstein and this is her answer, she should be fired or resign,” Mr. Erickson said. “But neither will happen, which is another reason the Democrats are going to have a good election year.”Activist Kyle Rittenhouse, who rose to prominence after killing two people during an anti-police protest in Wisconsin, said that Ms. Bondi needs to resign.“Pedophiles are okay as long as the economy is good!” he mocked in an X post along with a meme of Ms. Bondi transitioning into a clown.“The Trump administration is led by mostly genius individuals. So it’s a rapidly growing mystery as to why Pam Bondi is still there,” political commentator Liz Wheeler said in an X post. “It’s slightly mind-boggling to me that nobody in Trump’s inner circle—someone that Trump trusts and listens to, who can privately say things to Trump that he may not say publicly—has said to him, ‘Mr. President, maybe it’s time to consider a change in the position of attorney general.’” “I was about to say that I think she’s done a decent job, but I can’t. It’s just…I can’t say it,” podcaster Tim Pool said, according to the Daily Beast. “I think they’ve miserably handled the Epstein files. I don’t think we’re serviced as the American people by this kind of yelling.”“She comes off like a shrieking Karen,” Fox News host Lisa Kennedy said on “The Five” on Wednesday. “When she’s this emotional, it looks like she’s lost a little bit of the edge and she seems very, very unpersuasive. I feels like the job is consuming her. She needs to tone it down a little bit.”Congresswoman Nancy Mace called for Ms. Bondi to testify before the House Oversight Committee over the Justice Department’s apparent monitoring of lawmakers’ search histories while reviewing the unredacted Epstein files. A photographer snapped a photo during Wednesday’s hearing of Ms. Bondi with a printed out list of one House member’s search history. Some Democrats had also called for an investigation.In a statement to The New York Sun, the Justice Department confirmed that it is tracking the search histories of members of Congress who view the unreacted Epstein files. “As a part of that review, DOJ logs all searches made on its systems to protect against the release of victim information,” the department said.One conservative commentator suggested that Ms. Bondi’s performance was geared at a party of one — President Trump.Mr. Trump did come to Ms. Bondi’s defense in a post on his Truth Social account. Calling the hearing the “never ending saga of Jeffrey Epstein,” Mr. Trump said, “Nobody cared about Epstein when he was alive, they only cared about him when they thought he could create Political Harm to a very popular President.”
