The Joyce Theater will award $625,000 in commissioning grants to 25 dance companies in honor of the theater’s 25th anniversary, the board of trustees of the Joyce announced yesterday. Each company will receive $25,000 to create new works to be performed during future seasons. Recipients include large dance companies such as the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company, the Joffrey Ballet, and the Pacific Northwest Ballet; and smaller companies including Philadanco featuring choreographer Hinton Battle, Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, and the Lar Lubovitch Dance Company.
“We chose companies with the deepest histories at the Joyce Theater that have yet to receive Joyce commissioning funds; companies we want to foster deeper relationships with; and companies doing great work that we want to encourage,” the chair of the Joyce Theater foundation board of trustees, Stephen Weinroth, said.
The board of trustees also announced that all tickets to Sunday performances during the 2007–08 season will cost $25.
