80 MUSICAL YEARS Jazz composer and pianist Randy Weston celebrates his 80th birthday by performing two shows in Brooklyn. The first show is a solo piano performance (Thursday). On the week end, Mr. Weston participates in “The Spirit of Afrika,” a concert featuring a collection of jazz performers (Saturday). Both performances: 8 p.m., Long Island University’s Brooklyn campus, Kumble Theater for the Performing Arts, Flatbush and DeKalb avenues, 718-636-4181 ext. 2229, $20-$45.
PIANO PERFORMANCE Stepan Simonian, the winner of the Virginia Waring International Piano Competition, performs a program of works for piano by Bach, Perle, Glinka, Prokofiev, and Mussorgsky. Thursday, 8 p.m., Carnegie Hall, Weill Recital Hall, 881 Seventh Ave. at 57th Street, 212-247-7800, $15-$25.
