Dominion Voting Systems Agrees To Drop $1.3 Billion Defamation Lawsuit Against Mike Lindell

The legal challenges of the MyPillow CEO and a Republican candidate for governor in Minnesota, Mike Lindell, have eased after election technology company Liberty Vote, formerly known as Dominion Voting Systems, agreed to drop its $1.3 billion defamation lawsuit against him. In 2021, Dominion Voting Systems sued Mr. Lindell for defamation over his claims of a conspiracy to steal the 2020 election from President Trump. Smartmatic and Dominion also sued several conservative news outlets for hosting guests who promoted claims that the companies participated in a conspiracy to swing the 2020 election.But in October 2025, Dominion was bought by a former Republican election official, Scott Leindecker, who changed its name to Liberty Vote. And this week, the company filed a motion to drop its claims with prejudice, meaning they cannot be pursued in the future. Both sides will have to pay their attorneys’ fees. In an interview with the Minnesota Star Tribune, Mr. Lindell said, “This has been five years of just an attack on MyPillow and myself.”“I’m still going after them. I don’t care if it’s sold to Liberty Vote or whatever,” he said. “All [voting] machines have to go, and I’m not stopping, and they know that.”The Republican gubernatorial hopeful failed to receive his party’s endorsement, though a SurveyUSA and KSTP poll found that he was leading the rest of his primary opponents. Mr. Trump has not made a formal endorsement in the race, but said that Mr. Lindell “deserves to be governor of Minnesota.”While Mr. Lindell will not have to worry about a $1.3 billion defamation lawsuit, he still has other legal woes. The MyPillow CEO faced multiple defamation lawsuits over his claims about the 2020 election. In June, a Denver-based jury found he defamed a former Dominion employee and awarded the plaintiff $2.3 million in damages. In September 2025, a federal judge ruled that he defamed a separate election technology company, Smartmatic. Monetary damages will be decided in a coming trial. In 2023, Mr. Lindell told the Associated Press that he did not have the money to pay his legal bills. He said MyPillow had been “decimated” and had lost “hundreds of millions of dollars,” and insisted the defamation lawsuits were an attempt to get him to “shut up” about election security.
