Fired MSNBC Star Joy Reid Denounced for ‘Disgusting’ and ‘Anti-American’ Message at Democrats’ Alternate State of the Union

A fired MSNBC star, Joy Reid, is facing criticism — and mockery — after she delivered a profanity-laced rant at an alternative State of the Union event put on by Democrats and far-left interest groups.Exactly one year after she was fired from MSNBC, Ms. Reid spoke at the left-wing counter-programming effort, the “People’s State of the Union,” outside the Capitol, and said, “Attention all MAGA trolls … your [expletive]— is not welcome here,” “And to paraphrase one of my favorite actors in the world, Robert De Niro, I’m going to slightly paraphrase him:[expletive] y’all. We’re here to hear the truth and to hear from impacted people. Not to see or hear from you, so go back and pay attention to your orange lying friend,” she added. Throughout the outdoor event, conservative interlopers repeatedly mocked the gathering and speakers. At one point, a man made it on stage while far-left Democratic Senator Chris Murphy was speaking and said, “Go Trump!”Another fired MSNBC host, Katie Phang, told attendees that they are going to hear from people who have been “impacted directly by the [expletive] of this administration.”Ms. Reid said she is a “church girl” and “cussing Christian” who wants to “reclaim the Christian voice from white Christian nationalism.”A conservative commentator, Melik Abdul, shared the clip of Ms. Reid speaking and wrote on X, “Dems are spinning out of control. TDS is real, so very real.”“This accomplishes absolutely nothing,” another user wrote. A conservative commentator, Paul Szypula, described Ms. Reid as “vulgar.”“When you people start talking using so much vulgarity it totally voids anything you have to say! It’s disgusting and people are tired of hearing it,” another user said.Another user wrote, “Disgusting anti-American trash.”The comments were not all outrage. Some users found humor in the event’s apparently low turnout and energy. Others mocked Ms. Reid for singing on stage. A reporter at the Washington Free Beacon, Jessica Costescu, wrote on X, “Secondhand embarrassment: Failed MSNBC anchor Joy Reid attempts to sing a song on stage at the Democrats’ SOTU watch party, but no one joins in.”“This is so painful to watch,” another user said. Ms. Reid faced criticism in recent months for suggesting that Vice President JD Vance wants to leave his wife, Usha Vance, for the widow of Erik Kirk, saying it would be the “ultimate MAGA fairytale” and that Ms. Kirk would be his “white queen.”Mr. Vance has called similar comments “disgraceful” and said people who attack his wife can “eat [expletive].”Ms. Reid was the highest-profile casualty in a February 2025 restructuring at MSNBC, which canceled her show. Ms. Reid had been under fire for some time over racist comments she made on air, including remarks about white women. She has since resurfaced on Substack and YouTube to considerable success, making her one of the most prominent anti-Trump media figures ousted from legacy media organizations to find a second life as an independent creator.
