Former Mayor Adams Blasts Mamdani for Silence After Teen Openly Beaten to Death in Queens Park

The former New York City mayor, Eric Adams, is tearing into Mayor Zohran Mamdani for not speaking out about the fatal beating of a 15-year-old boy in an incident that was captured on video.The teen was shot Thursday just after 6 p.m. at Roy Wilkins Park at Queens. The video showed a large group of young people gathered around as two people repeatedly punched the victim. The last punch showed the victim falling to the ground. The shooting took place after the video ended. The boy died at a nearby hospital from a gunshot wound to the chest.A 15-year-old kid was beaten and shot to death at a Southeast Queens playground yesterday. And somehow this isn’t the top story. And somehow this isn’t the top story,” Mr. Adams said in an X post on Friday. He noted that Attorney General Letitia James spoke out about it and so did Queens Borough President Donovan Richards Jr. but questioned Mr. Mamdani for not speaking out.“Outrage shouldn’t depend on zip code. Every child deserves protection,” Mr. Adams posted.The NYPD called it “a horrific act of violence” in an X post. No arrests have been made in the case. In a social media post, the police department asked for anyone with tips to call a tip line.“Mamdani going to post a video about this? Of couse [sic] not,” one user reacted on Mr. Adam’s post.“No word from @NYCMayor — sleeping,” another responded.“@NYCMayor is already blaming the Jews,” another commenter replied.Mr. Mamdani was not asked about the killing during a press conference he held on Friday announcing a new citywide trash plan.
