House Democrats Announce Plans To Host Field Hearing with Epstein Victims in Trump’s Back Yard

Democratic members of the House Oversight Committee plan on holding a field hearing in April featuring survivors of Jeffrey Epstein’s abuse to discuss the failure to release all government files related to the notorious sex offender. The hearing will be held at Palm Beach, Florida — home to both Epstein’s former mansion and President Trump’s Mar-a-Lago club. Democrats have played into the politics of the Epstein files for the better part of a year, tying it to a broader corruption message around pardons, Mr. Trump’s family businesses, and other matters. The Justice Department is required to release all DOJ and FBI files related to Epstein, though the department’s inability to do so — and its heavy hand in redacting information — has led many Americans to believe the Trump administration is inadequately handling the affair. On Wednesday, the top Democrat on the Oversight Committee, Congressman Robert Garcia, announced that Democratic members and some survivors of Epstein’s abuse will hold a public hearing on April 14 in Florida. “President Trump is mentioned in the Epstein files thousands of times, but he refuses to answer any questions about his relationship with Jeffrey Epstein. If he has nothing to hide, he should join us in his hometown of Palm Beach,” Mr. Garcia said in a statement. “We look forward to hearing directly from survivors and other key witnesses as we begin the next phase of our investigation.”The press release from Democrats says Palm Beach is the perfect place to hold the hearing, given that multiple women were recruited for Epstein from Mar-a-Lago. Mr. Trump himself has confirmed that many young women from his club’s spa would travel to Epstein’s nearby mansion — which was just a five minute drive from Mar-a-Lago before being demolished — in order to provide services for Epstein. The most famous spa worker to be sent to Epstein’s home was Virginia Giuffre, who accused Epstein and his accomplice, Ghislaine Maxwell, of sex trafficking her to powerful men, including the UK’s Andrew Mountbatten Windsor, formerly Prince Andrew. Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One last year, Mr. Trump said Epstein using young women from his spa was a final straw for him, and was the reason for his decision to bar Epstein from his club. “People were taken out of the spa — hired by him. In other words, gone,” Mr. Trump told reporters last summer. “And other people would come and complain, ‘This guy is taking people from the spa.’ I didn’t know that. And then when I heard about it I told him, I said, ‘Listen, we don’t want you taking our people,’ whether it was spa or not spa, I don’t want him taking people. And he was fine and then, not too long after that, he did it again and I said, ‘Outta here.’”
