Israel Calls on French Jews To Move to the Jewish State as Riots and Arson Engulf France; Macron To Address Nation

A call for French Jews to depart France and make their way to Israel has been issued by Israel amid the rioting and arson that has engulfed the country in recent days. As President Emmanuel Macron prepared to speak to the nation Sunday evening French time, agitators exploited weeks of public sector strikes that turned into protests by high school students and have since resulted in nationwide rioting, violence, and arson. A synagogue at Paris’s 19th arrondissement, where one of the largest Hasidic communities resides, was vandalized.A CNews journalist in France, Paul Amar, reported Sunday that Jewish-owned stores on a city block in Marseilles were set aflame. Muslim-owned stores in the same neighborhood were reportedly left untouched. The distinction between peaceful and violent actors was noted by the Spectator’s Gavin Mortimer, who said that while traditional far-left protests, including 2018’s Yellow Vest Movement protesting gas prices, have been largely led by white les Français, many of the individuals participating in the weekend violence waved Palestinian flags and wore keffiyahs. “The images coming out of Paris are heartbreaking and illustrate once again the rise of dangerous anti-Semitism on the streets of France,” Aliyah and Integration Minister Ofir Sofer reportedly told the government. “Attacking a synagogue is the crossing of a red line that cannot remain unanswered.”“In light of the riots in France, we must prepare a plan to absorb a massive immigration of Jews,” he added, according to Israel’s i24 News.Elsewhere in France, in a series of attacks that do not seem to correlate to demands for more affordability, better pay, and improved classroom conditions, rioters burnt to the ground the City Hall at Limoges, built in 1883. Other city halls, at Lille and Marseille, were also damaged while widespread destruction of public and private property hit Paris, Lyon, Agen, Nice, Toulouse, Rennes, Brest, and Bordeaux, among other cities. More than 150 police were injured, and one killed. Police arrested 900 individuals nationwide in protests that were said to include more than a half-million individuals.“No room for violence in our Republic. Those who have broken, attacked the prefectures as well as businesses, looted even our town halls, will be prosecuted and punished. To the law enforcement forces, guarantors of the right to demonstrate, I express the support of the Nation,” Mr. Macron said in a statement on Saturday.“We will all stand united against the sowers of chaos, who seek only to bring down our institutions and prevent those who peacefully express their demands from doing so,” he added.France’s AFP news outlet reports that masked, gloved young men were seen disconnecting security cameras before smashing shop windows while in eight other cities boutiques, pharmacies, and supermarkets reported looting. Fearing more opportunistic crimes, luxury fashion house Dior hired its own security team at Paris after its shop on the fashionable Rue Saint-Honoré, along with several others, was ransacked. Paris’s socialist mayor, Emmanuel Grégoire, announced that several fashionable city blocks were targeted for violence and looted. He called the damage “considerable and unprecedented;” and addressed the madness by noting that he will organize a meeting of representatives from merchants, consular chambers, insurers, and state services to discuss repairs.Without referencing the source of destruction or any repercussions that offenders may face, Mr. Grégoire noted that “Paris is a city of freedoms, of debate, and of demonstrations. It must remain so. But it must also be a city where everyone can work and build their livelihood in safety. These two requirements do not contradict each other. For me, they are inseparable,” he wrote.France’s prime minister, Sebastian Lecornu, did lay blame at the hands of ultraleft groups, egged on by presidential candidate Jean-Luc Mélenchon, of the France Insoumise, or “Defiance,” Party, who declared the police were at fault for not controlling the crowds before they got out of hand. “This is YOUR political responsibility,” Mr. Lecornu responded in an X post to Mr. Melanchon, who had claimed that “aberrant command has opened the door to chaos.”“Holding police chiefs accountable for the violence is a dangerous and cynical reversal of responsibilities. … You cannot call for an end to the violence while providing excuses to those who commit it.”Green Party presidential candidate Marine Tondelier also held responsible France’s interior minister, Laurent Nuñez, saying that an inadequate security setup resulted in the prevention of tens of thousands of people “from exercising the fundamental right to demonstrate peacefully” while entire cities were “abandoned to rioters,” resulting in assaults on peaceful protesters. She criticized police for “indiscriminate repression” of demonstrators alongside rioters. In a TruthSocial Post on Sunday, President Trump made clear who he thought was to blame. “France is burning! The immigration of people from an entirely different world, people with hatred in their hearts, has shattered that once great country. Close your Borders and take control, before it is too late!” he wrote.
