Israeli Ambassador Lashes Out at Macron After His Son Is Rammed in West Bank

Israel’s ambassador to America criticized President Macron for focusing on settler violence in the West Bank in his speech to the UN after the ambassador’s son was severely wounded in a car ramming attack in the West Bank.Ambassador Yechiel Leiter’s son Neria was wounded when a Palestinian man, Mahmoud Mohammad Sliman, 29, drove his car into the Maccabim (Bell) checkpoint on Route 443 on Wednesday. Speaking from the Shaare Zedek hospital where his son had undergone brain surgery and was fighting for his life, ambassador Leiter said that Mr. Macron had been motivated by “ignorance or malice or wickedness” in saying at the UN that “Hamas has never harmed Jews in Judea and Samaria.” Mr. Leiter said Israel needs to push back on Mr. Macron’s false claim because “the goal is to uproot us from this place. That’s the bottom line.”Leiter said that “there is hope,” for his son whose “life is still in danger.” The ambassador also disclosed that when his pregnant daughter Sarah visited Neira in the hospital she went into labour. “When she arrived at her brother’s bedside yesterday, her waters broke — two weeks before the due date. Now she is lying 40 meters from her brother in intensive care,” he said. Ambassador Leiter already lost one of his sons, Moshe Yedidia Leiter, 39, in the war between Israel and Hamas. Yedidia, a former commander in the elite Shaldag unit, was killed during fighting in the Beit Hanoun area in Gaza. Israeli police said the Palestinian assailant drove toward the officers at “high speed and struck a member of the security forces.”“IDF forces who were at the scene opened fire at the terrorist as he attempted to flee and neutralized him. As a result of the attack, a member of the security forces was seriously wounded and evacuated to hospital for further medical treatment,” police said.A spokesperson from Israel’s Magen David Adom emergency service said that paramedic Yishai Mor and MDA Emergency Medical Technicians Yehiel Frankenhuys and Avraham Lavi rushed to the scene where they saw “a great turmoil and a man in his 40s who was unconscious and suffering from severe multi-system trauma after being run over.” “Together with IDF medical forces, we provided him with life-saving medical treatment and evacuated him in an MDA ambulance to the hospital in serious condition,” the spokesperson said. Neria Leiter underwent emergency brain surgery at the Shaare Zedek hospital in Jerusalem as he was fighting for his life. “This is a multi-system injury. Unfortunately, the most severe injury is a head injury with intracranial bleeding, and it is the one that is life-threatening,” said Dr. Alon Schwartz, director of the hospital’s trauma unit. Deputy Chief of Medical Staff Prof. Alexander Yoskowitz said they “currently cannot say what will happen tomorrow or the day after tomorrow. With such a severe head injury, we are assessing every hour or two.”Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also visited Neria and his family at the hospital before departing for the UN General Assembly, asking Israelis to “pray” for his recovery.”President Isaac Herzog also offered his condolences, saying: “Neria is fighting for his life at this very hour, and we will pray for his recovery. We all stand with this dear family and send them our strength.”
