While Juilliard’s gala Monday featured Barbara Cook in concert and raised $1.3 million, some of the guests like just hanging out on campus.
“I love it here and I come back as much as I can,” an alumna and the event’s honorary chairwoman, actress Laura Linney, said. She credited the school’s president, Joseph Polisi. “He’s the reason why the school has flourished. He’s hands-on and approachable.”
Recently, friends and family members made a donation to the school in honor of Ms. Linney’s engagement to Marc Schauer.
Trustee Saundra Whitney likes sharing hallways and elevators with students on her way to the school’s board meetings. “The chatter of this place is incredible. There’s nothing to compare with the vitality of the campus,” Ms. Whitney said.
“The school is a treasure for New York,” patron Gordon Henderson said. For years he has invited student and alumni to perform in Mountain Lake, Fla. — and given them tennis lessons.
