NASA’s daily briefings and official livestreams drew millions of viewers while hashtags like #ArtemisII, #NASA, and #BackToTheMoon have trended in the top five worldwide since the splashdown.A Reuters/Ipsos poll conducted from April 3 to 5, while Artemis II was en route to the moon, found that 80 percent of respondents held very or somewhat favorable views of NASA, with 70 percent saying they get excited about space travel. Those upbeat views were held by large majorities of both Republicans and Democrats, Reuters reported.Possibly more significant for NASA’s budget, 62 percent said they believe the benefits of space travel outweigh the costs, compared to only 34 percent who disagreed. That stands in contrast to polling a year after the first moon landing in 1969, when just 39 percent felt the costs were justified according to a 1970 Harris poll.Support for space travel gradually improved in the decades since 1970, according to tracking by the Gallup Organization, which found respondents saying the costs were justified had ticked upward to reach 64 percent by 2019, the 50th anniversary of the first moon landing.
