The Giants hired former Cleveland Browns head coach Chris Palmer to be their quarterbacks coach, ESPN.com said.
Palmer, who will serve as a mentor to Giants quarterback Eli Manning, will be officially introduced by the team early in the week, the Web site reported without citing its source.
Palmer, 57, last season held the same position for the Dallas Cowboys and helped Tony Romo take over as starting quarterback. He was the Browns’ first head coach after the National Football League added the expansion team in 1999, compiling a 5–27 record in two seasons. He also mentored the quarterbacks under Giants coach Tom Coughlin when the two were at Jacksonville.
Manning, 27, completed 301 of 522 passes last season, with 24 touchdowns and 18 interceptions, leading the Giants to an 8-8 record and a playoff loss to Philadelphia.
