Lleyton Hewitt and Roger Federer are the main attractions on Arthur Ashe this afternoon, followed by two women’s quarterfinals at night.
In the first evening match, Maria Sharapova takes on Nadia Petrova. Then Venus Williams, fresh off her seventh career win over her sister, takes on the dogged Kim Clijsters.
Hewitt should have a relatively easy match against Dominik Hrbaty. Federer, meanwhile, plays a man who usually gives him trouble: Nicholas Kiefer. The German was the only man to take a set from Federer at Wimbledon this year.
In other day matches, top-seeded doubles team Jonas Bjorkman and Max Mirnyi begin play in Arthur Ashe Stadium. Twins Bob and Mike Bryan play later in the afternoon in Louis Armstrong Stadium, followed by an early evening match between David Nalbandian and Davide Sanguinetti. The winner likely would get a crack at Federer in the quarterfinals.
