Springsteen Tells Election Officials to ‘Ensure Our Voice is Heard’

As Election Day dawned with candidates who were born to run, rock legend Bruce Springsteen warned election officials to do their duty and count every vote.“You who represent us must never consent to any directives that undermine our constitutional right to a free and fair election,” Mr. Springsteen said in a video posted to social media. “Our vote is our voice, and it’s up to you to ensure our voice is heard.”Mr. Springsteen echoed warnings by Democratic leaders concerned that proper vote counting in key races could be thwarted by stopped counts or ballot manipulation. Democrats have specifically spoken out about the assignment of more than 1,000 election monitors from the Department of Justice who have fanned out nationwide to all 50 states. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer of New York last week announced the creation of an Election Protection Task Force along with the staffing of a “war room,” which would in part monitor the Justice Department monitors.Mr. Springsteen’s video came just a day after his Monday endorsement of Michigan Senate nominee Abdul el-Sayed, praising him as “a fighter for our American democracy,” whom he backs “100 percent.” Both Democrats and Republicans have expressed concern about the integrity of the vote in Michigan, with the Department of State saying that Justice Department monitors in Dearborn requested copies of training manuals and asked poll workers about their training. Mr. Springsteen, known across the country as “the Boss” but more commonly referred to as simply “Bruce” to his devoted New Jersey fan base, has become more outspoken about his objections to the Trump administration. His 2026 “Land of Hopes and Dreams American Tour” with the E Street Band explicitly included a series of Springsteen monologues slamming a wide range of administration policies. President Trump himself responded to the attacks in a series of online posts and statements, calling Mr. Springsteen “a total loser” and a “very boring singer” who suffered from a severe case of “Trump Derangement Syndrome.” Mr. Springsteen has a long history of supporting Democratic candidates, occasionally sparking criticism and backlash from some elements of his fan base. In addition to his support for presidential candidates Kamala Harris in 2024 and Barack Obama in 2008 and 2012, he notably clashed with President Ronald Reagan during the 1984 campaign over use of his hit “Born in the USA.”
