CNN’s Alayna Treene, Other CNN Stars Slammed for Calling Loss of F-15 Over Iran a ‘Huge Blow’ for Trump

CNN is being denounced after one of its reporters framed an American F-15 going down over Iran as a “blow” to the Trump Administration, while a search was underway for a missing crew member. As search and rescue operations were underway on Friday, CNN’s Alayna Treene noted that the incident was the first time an American aircraft was shot down over Iran since “Operation Epic Fury” began.“We are waiting to hear what the White House will ultimately say on this … But it is, you know, a huge blow for this Trump Administration, particularly at a time when you heard the president try to project confidence about completely diminishing Iran’s military capabilities,” she said. At the time of her comment, Iran had claimed it shot down the F-15. However, there had been no comment from American officials on whether the jet was shot down or there was a mechanical issue. The framing of the incident as a “blow” to the administration was harshly criticized by conservatives.A conservative commentator, David Freeman, wrote on X, “CNN says this downed F-15 is a ‘huge blow’ to the Trump admin. They can’t go FIVE SECONDS without bashing Trump, even as CSAR operations are underway. Pray for our troops, hate the media, Love America.”“This is truly disgusting stuff. CNN can barely contain their excitement that American pilots were shot down. Look at their faces. They are stoked to be able to bring news to hit the Trump administration with,” wrote commentator Matt Van Swol.Another user said, “CNN: We have very little information to give you but we have extremely strong opinions about the information we do not know – especially as it relates to being a huge blow to Trump.”“CNN calling one downed jet a ‘huge blow’ while ignoring the past month of Iranian losses is peak desperation. They’re rooting for the regime to win, praying for a headline to hurt Trump. Focus on the rescue, not the ratings,” another person said. By Friday afternoon, multiple outlets reported that one pilot had been rescued and a search was underway for the other crew member.The denunciation of CNN for its coverage of the F-15 jet comes just weeks after the network had to make repeated corrections to its stories about a suspected ISIS-inspired terror plot at New York City.In March, CNN shared the article about the suspects on its X page with the caption, “Two Pennsylvania teenagers crossed into New York City Saturday morning for what could’ve been a normal day enjoying the city during abnormally warm weather.”“But in less than an hour, their lives would drastically change as the pair would be arrested for throwing homemade bombs during an anti-Muslim protest outside the home of Mayor Zohran Mamdani.Two teenagers, Emi Balat and Ibrahim Kayumi, are accused of throwing explosive devices outside Gracie Mansion. The New York City Police Commissioner, Jessica Tisch, told reporters that the makeshift bombs could have killed people and that the suspects admitted to being inspired by ISIS. They are facing five felony counts, including use of a weapon of mass destruction, transportation of explosive materials, and attempted support of a designated foreign terrorist organization.The network later said that the post “failed to reflect the gravity of the incident thereby breaching the editorial standards,” and deleted the post. After users pointed out that the content came from the article, the network updated the language in the article as well. The next day, CNN’s Abby Phillip apologized after she stated on her program that the terror plot targeted New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani.CNN did not respond to the Sun’s request for comment by the time of publication.
