Trump Proposes White House Helipad To Protect South Lawn From New Marine One

President Trump is planning to construct a permanent helipad on the White House grounds to accommodate the new Marine One helicopter, according to numerous reports.The proposed addition aims to protect the South Lawn from the aircraft’s powerful engines, marking the latest in a series of ambitious architectural changes during his second term.The president has discussed installing the helipad to prevent the new VH-92A Patriot helicopter from destroying the iconic lawn, according to The Wall Street Journal. Three sources also confirmed to The Washington Post that the helipad concept has been considered for several years, as the newer aircraft is significantly more likely to scorch the lawn than previous Marine One models.It remains unclear who will fund the construction of the new helipad. However, the administration views the project as part of a broader infrastructure and beautification push across the nation’s capital. “President Trump has continued to make improvements at the White House and all around D.C. to benefit future presidents and Americans,” White House spokesman Davis Ingle told Fox News.The helipad is just one of several sweeping renovation projects Mr. Trump has spearheaded recently. Among the most heavily debated is the ongoing construction of a new White House ballroom, which resulted in the removal of the building’s historic East Wing. On Saturday, the Senate parliamentarian struck down a $1 billion provision intended to fund the ballroom within a budget reconciliation package, creating a significant hurdle for the project’s financial backing. Scrutiny over the ballroom has also heightened due to security concerns surrounding large executive events following an April shooting connected to the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner.Beyond the executive mansion, Mr. Trump has pushed to overhaul iconic landmarks across the District of Columbia. Last month, he announced plans to repair the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool on the National Mall, describing its current condition as “terrible” and “filthy.” Additional proposals include erecting a 250-foot triumphal arch at a roundabout between Memorial Bridge and Memorial Avenue near Arlington Cemetery.Inside the White House grounds, recent updates feature polished black granite flooring along the West Wing Colonnade, a pathway now dubbed the “Presidential Walk of Fame.” The president also directed the installation of stone pavers to better accommodate press conferences in the Rose Garden, which has been rebranded as the “Rose Garden Club.”
