Tucker Carlson Ignores Israeli Christian Leader’s Invitation to See His ‘Thriving’ Community ‘With His Own Eyes’

As conservative podcaster Tucker Carlson travels through the Holy Land casting Israel as an enemy of Christianity, a leading Israeli Christian figure says his invitation to meet has gone unanswered.The founder of the Aramaic Israeli Christian Association, Shadi Khalloul, said Tuesday that he invited Mr. Carlson to meet the “thriving Christian community” in Israel and “to see with his own eyes the people and realities he speaks about so confidently and so often on his platform.”The invitation, which Mr. Khalloul attached to his post, included an offer to accompany Mr. Carlson to several significant sites — Israel’s Holocaust memorial, the holy sites of Jerusalem, the kibbutzim massacred by Hamas on October 7, and the Galilee region, where Mr. Khalloul and other leaders of Israel’s Christian communities reside.“This letter was sent a week ago to every email address listed on his website. Not a single response,” Mr. Khalloul wrote. “For someone who claims to care so deeply about the Christians in the Holy Land,” he added, Mr. Carlson’s “silence is deafening.”The rebuke comes as Mr. Carlson has spent recent weeks interviewing Christian figures about life in the Levant. Earlier this month, he released a podcast episode featuring interviews conducted in Jordan with the Anglican Archbishop of Jerusalem, Hosam Naoum, and the chairman of Jordan Ahli Bank, Saad Mouasher.The episode — titled “The Shocking Reality of the Treatment of Christians in the Holy Land by the US-Funded Israeli Government” — portrays Israel as systematically targeting and displacing the region’s Christian population.Mr. Khalloul, a lifelong Israeli resident and devout Christian, dismissed the video as “propaganda aimed at deceiving Westerners and making Islam look appealing.” He also questioned the credibility of Archbishop Naoum, saying he hails from “a small Anglican community that is afraid for his property in Jordan or Gaza” and is likely to be motivated by financial incentives to speak against Israel.The episode drew similar criticism from a media watchdog group, HonestReporting. “Carlson goes above and beyond to ensure he tells a slanted story of the reality of Christians in the Middle East, and particularly those living in and around Israel,” the advocacy group wrote. “What he does not do, however, is portray the thousands of Christians living in Israel who enjoy the same rights, freedoms, and benefits of the state as any other citizen.”Mr. Carlson is scheduled to sit down Wednesday in Jerusalem with the American Ambassador to Israel, Mike Huckabee, a figure Mr. Carlson has previously criticized. Mr. Huckabee said Monday that he hopes to “change the narrative” by “pushing back” against what he called “misinformation.”
