Knicks Parade Set for Thursday as New York Forges Unbreakable Bond With Resilient NBA Champs

It may take until then to clean up the streets after bedlam erupted across New York on Saturday night in the seconds after the Knicks won its first NBA Championship since 1973.With a gritty, character-defining 94-90 victory over the San Antonio Spurs, the Knicks captured the best-of-seven series four games to one. The city will officially honor its champions on Thursday. New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani confirmed the plans for the ticker-tape — standard shredded paper these days — parade and announced a formal ceremony at City Hall where the team will receive the keys to the city.“For more than 50 years, New Yorkers have waited for this moment,” Mayor Mamdani said in an official statement. “This team fulfilled that hope with grit, resilience, and heart—just like the five boroughs itself. Now it’s time for our city to celebrate together. Bing bong.”The parade promises plenty of local flavor. Among the sleek sports cars and standard floats rolling down Broadway, fans can look forward to seeing one very specific addition to the motorcade: a massive white truck owned by center Mitchell Robinson.“I just got asked to put my personal truck in the parade so I’m really excited,” Mr. Robinson said in a joyous locker room. “I’m just ready to see what it’s like.”The Knicks victory instantly united a metropolitan area well-acquainted with political and social division.
