The Amnesia Democrats Want Voters To Forget Their Past Extremist Comments

Watching various big-government socialists win primaries and promptly back away from past social posts and comments is becoming a routine part of the 2026 campaign.Suddenly, in state after state, the big-government socialists who won their primaries as left-wing radicals have realized that they are likely to lose their general elections if they stick to the scripts they have been using for years.Looking at America’s New Majority Project data, which has been polling key issues since 2018, most left-wing, radical, and anti-American positions attract about 15 percent of the vote or less. Of course, the sheer number of registered Democrat voters will help the radical candidates get above 15 percent. The polarization against President Trump will further increase the number of voters willing to consider voting for the big government socialist candidates. Finally, general unhappiness with gas prices and affordability will lead some to consider voting for candidates they deeply dislike but who at least represent a protest of current conditions.However, when you start from an issue base of 15 percent, it should be easy for Republicans to make the more radical candidates totally unacceptable to most Americans. Given a choice between dissatisfaction with current Republican job performance and fear of radical change the big government socialists represent, a substantial majority will end up voting Republican and finding the Democrats an impossible alternative. The collapse of George McGovern in 1972 and Walter Mondale in 1984 are perfect examples of the American people repudiating radicals who frighten them. So, the answer for Democrat candidates (radical and supposedly moderate) has been to adopt an amnesia strategy. These candidates would like you to forget the crazy things they posted on social media — or the crazy votes they cast in Congress. Consider Wisconsin Democratic gubernatorial candidate Francesca Hong’s previously-stated desire to abolish Thanksgiving as a genocidal event. Just forget about that. She now says Thanksgiving is her favorite holiday. One of the keys to the amnesia strategy is to overreach so the lie is so big it smothers the truth.When Michigan’s Democratic senate candidate, Abdul El-Sayed, is called out for proposing to defund the police in past campaigns (and calling to abolish ICE in this one) he will no doubt start bobbing and weaving. He’ll explain that he had a change of heart after the primary. He will soon be pro-police and will hope you forget his earlier statements. Dr. El-Sayed is already attempting to distance himself from his former ally Hasan Piker, who said America deserved to be attacked on September 11, 2001. Democrat William Lawrence, who is running for Michigan’s 7th Congressional District, offers a clear example of the amnesia Democrat strategy. He has called to defund the police multiple times. His now-deleted posts include:“Defund the police!”“We are going to defund the Lansing police.”“Man this crime wave is crazy huh, seems like cops are bad at stopping crime, hey I’ve got an idea, let’s get rid of them and try something else.”Mr. Lawrence also has called for “free and open migration.” My favorite recent example of an anti-American Democrat is the candidate for New York’s 13th Congressional District, Darializa Avila Chevalier. In 2019, she posted “I forgot to get napkins so I just wiped my hand on the American flag behind me.”Considering the people who gave their lives for that flag and its importance as a symbol of the nation, Ms. Chevalier is unacceptable as a member of Congress. If she wins, she should be given no committee assignments.The radicalism of the big government socialists is going to turn the 2026 election into a choice between two teams. The Democrats’ hope is that they can convince the American people to acquire amnesia and ignore everything they have said and written in the past.It is a bold strategy, but I have a hunch it will fail badly. I have faith that the American people will gravitate toward a party which is committed to controlling the border, protecting the police, and honoring the American flag.The Democrats’ amnesia strategy will fail, and a commonsense Republican commitment to solve people’s problems will win decisively this fall.
